And We’re Off…in Our New Car!
ASAP’s nonprofit partner PEN had a critical problem. How to transport large equipment like balance beams, as well as 20 coaches, back and forth from PEN’s office in Pretoria to 6 township communities in different directions 45-75 minutes away, and on to the 172 preschools the ASAP Educational Toy Libraries support? The answer was to get a reliable vehicle. But this was nowhere in PEN’s budget.
“Car trip to Senekal was a dream! It is sooooooooooooo cool!” Maria said, about an 8-hour round trip into a new province.
ASAP donors stepped up with a total gift of $12,000 for the 70th Birthdays of the two ASAP coordinators Nancy Schongalla and Marlese Nel. A dealership in Pretoria was so moved when they learned what the car was for, that they gave PEN a new 5-seater Toyota for that price! ASAP additionally funded the logo branding to identify our mission in dangerous areas, help keep coaches safe, and deter potential hijackers.
